Information for S-Bahn users
- If arriving by train, it is advisable to purchase a ticket to the “Stuttgart-Universität” stop. This means that there are no additional costs for the section between Stuttgart Central Station and Stuttgart-Vahingen on public transport.
- For the S-Bahn from the main station or airport to the university, you will need to purchase tickets for 2 fare zones. In addition to single tickets, multi-trip tickets and several types of day tickets are also available. Details can be found at the Stuttgart Transport Association.
From the main train station
- Take an S-Bahn train in the direction of “Flughafen,” “Filderstadt,” “Vaihingen,” “Böblingen,” or “Herrenberg” (S1, S2, or S3).
- Get off at the “Universität” stop (fourth stop after the main train station). Take the exit at the end of the train (towards “Universitätszentrum”).
- The Department of Mathematics is located in the building at Pfaffenwaldring 57 on the seventh and eighth floors.
- The Institute for Stochastics and Applications is on the eighth floor (near the green elevator).
- This is where the Chair of Stochastics and Applications (Prof. Steinwart, PD Dippon) and the Department of Financial Mathematics (Prof. Herdegen) are located.
- The departments of Prof. Radde, Jun.-Prof. Oesting, and Jun.-Prof. Trottner are located at Wankelstr. 5.
Please note: The city of Stuttgart is considered an “environmental zone.” This means that every vehicle needs a green emissions sticker to drive and park in Stuttgart. In addition, there is a year-round driving ban for all motor vehicles with diesel engines that meet the Euro 4/IV emissions standard or lower. The city of Stuttgart has compiled further information on the diesel traffic ban for you.Leave the A8 motorway at the “Autobahnkreuz Stuttgart” junction and head towards “Stuttgart Zentrum.”
- Follow the A831 motorway, which merges into the B14 federal highway after approximately 2 kilometers.
- After passing through a short tunnel (“Johannesgraben Tunnel”), leave the B14 at the “Universität” exit.
- You will now come to a large intersection, where you turn left.
- Follow Universitätsstraße.
- After the second pedestrian traffic light, you will pass the “Universität” bus stop. After this, turn right onto Pfaffenwaldring.
