Workshop 'Computational Models in Biology and Medicine'

June 29, 2023

On 15-16.6.2023 the workshop 'Computational Models in Biology and Medicine' took place at the University of Stuttgart on the campus Vaihingen in the premises of the former campus guest.

The workshop is organized once a year by the GMDS/IBS working groups 'Mathematical Models in Medicine and Biology' (WG leaders: Dr. Ingmar Lauche, TU Dresden, and Prof. Nicole Radde, University of Stuttgart / SimTech) and 'Statistical Methods in Bioinformatics' (WG leaders: Michael Altenbuchinger, University Medical Center Göttingen; Tim, Kacprowski, Technical University of Braunschweig; Markus Wolfien, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Dresden, Germany), this time with participation of the Cluster of Excellence SimTech.

The workshop is mainly aimed at young scientists at different career stages and offers a format for professional exchange and networking. We invited four keynote speakers this year:

  • Lars Kaderali (University of Greifswald, Institute for Bioinformatics, Greifswald, Germany)
  • Matthias König (Humboldt-University Berlin, Institute for Theoretical Biology, Berlin, Germany)
  • Jana Wolf (Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), Berlin, Germany)
  • Achim Tresch (University of Cologne, Institute of Medical Statistics and Computational Biology, Cologne, Germany)

In the four sessions, participants had the opportunity to show their work in short presentations or posters and to engage in conversation with others. The response was great, with about 80 participants engaged in lively discussions about models, methods and simulations in biological and (bio)medical applications. All in all, it was a very successful event, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks for the support from GmdS, IBS and SimTech, who made this exchange format possible.
